Description
SAINT MARTIN– READING & SPELLING – WRITING & RIDDLES– SEASONAL CRAFTS
ANIMAL FABLES – 50 pages: Four weeks of daily lesson plans with mentoring comments are illustrated with 18 pages of bookwork and blackboards, painting and modelling, spelling exercises, riddles and a letter of information to the parents. One week is dedicated to lantern-making for a Lantern Walk in honour of St Martin; three weeks focus on spelling, writing, reading and the moral message of animal fables, collected in a self-made Fable Reader and a Word Families booklet.
Includes a free seasonal Morning Circle template of topic-related poems and songs, musical scores and mentor’s footnotes. Customise it for your cultural setting or use it to teach English as a foreign language.
This chapter shows how to develop literacy skills with a group of mixed abilities, so that readers are not bored and non-readers not stressed. Animal fables appeal to the moral sense while riddles train intelligence with humour. Spelling is practised with a circle activity, Word Families and a Fable Reader. Songs, poems and lanterns for Martinmas honour the festival of the school year’s second saint, and a craft project rounds off this Main Lesson that sees every child making progress in literacy at their current level.
Such a great resource for this grade! I’ve done second grade twice before as a homeschool mom, but it had been a few years, so this was very helpful in my planning. My youngest loves the songs and verses that are also included (and I enjoy learning new ones).
