Description
DECIMAL ORDER – VERTICAL NUMBERWORK – CARRYING OVER – PLAY REHEARSAL
PLACE VALUE – 35 pages: Three weeks of lesson plans with mentoring comments are illustrated with 11 pages of images including Master Decimal’s story, bookwork, blackboards, worksheets, the Nature Table, seasonal modelling and artwork.
The free Morning Circle template has mentor’s footnotes, musical scores, counting and beanbag exercises, and a little Maths play. Customise it for your cultural setting or use it to teach English as a foreign language.
This chapter shows how to introduce decimal notation and vertical numberwork in an age-appropriate way. Master Decimal and his shelf help to understand large numbers. Counting and the multiplication tables continue to be practised, a little Maths play is rehearsed, and first worksheets introduce the kind of practice that will continue through the years. Two seasonal art projects round off this Main Lesson of three weeks that aims to make every child enjoy working with numbers, regardless of natural ability.
This block was very helpful in my homeschool planning. I was able to adapt the story to include our Math Squirrels from last year. My young second grader loved it. I could easily use household toys/items for the manipulative we used in the first part of the block.
The scope of the block is clearly laid out and you can see how each skill builds from the previous. It is very easy to modify any part of this for your individual child. His favorite MLB page to draw was the messy treasure room 😁
